I’ve been experimenting with all sorts of projects over the last few weeks, from social media automations to training custom AIs automatically and so much more.
But I need your help. What should I build next?
It takes 10x longer (or more!) to build an application that people can use vs. using it internally, so I want to make sure to build something that would be useful.
Can you take a look at the list below, and then leave a comment for what sound most exciting for you? What you would actually use?
Note that all of these are things I’ve done at some level over the last couple of weeks internally. The question is what should I create an app around that other people can use?
Here’s my list:
- Book/blog to social media post generator and review system. Take your book or blog posts and turn them into 100s of social media posts, threads, and quote images. I took 10 blog posts and turned them into 165 tweets in about five minutes, then built a custom editor to quickly review, edit, and schedule them.
- Church small group discussion question generator. Automatically create small group discussion questions (and icebreaker questions) based on the sermon text and output as a google doc for easy editing/sending. I built this for my church, but it would be pretty easy to turn into a simple web app.
- Write Coach Mac app. We’ve already trained an AI on our story structure framework and built a basic web app (writecoach.ai) so why not just create a full on word processor and integrate it all together?
- Podcast research tool for authors/speakers. Quickly research podcasts to find guest opportunities for speakers and authors.
- Text to speech for writers. There are other apps like this out there already, but none that would be as inexpensive. This takes any text, whether a doc or something you copy and paste, and turns it into speech with AI. It’s actually really high quality, not audiobook level but close. Really useful especially for editors/writers who have to read a lot of text. Can also integrate this into other services.
- AI Assistant (accountant, calendar, gift ideas, interests, compliments for your spouse). Train an AI on ALL your data (financial, calendar, personal), and then use it to ask questions or make suggestions. There are other apps out there like this, but they’re not very good yet. Could be a competitive space but also potentially very big.
- Phone game automation. Observes your game and clicks through/automates the boring/annoying bits. This is a bit of a grey area ethics/legal wise, but it’s kind of neat.
- Personal radio. Create a customized radio channel specifically for YOUR life, like what’s on your calendar, what’s in your inbox, what opportunities you have upcoming, news sources related to you etc
- Train an AI to sound like you. I actually think this is a service not an app, because a lot of apps integrate training their model on your content, but none allow you to take the AI with you outside their closed ecosystem.
- SEO Content Audit tool. Sync data from google console, WordPress, google analytics, and ahrefs daily to help you understand what’s going on with your content. Could even make suggestions on whether to improve, merge, or delete your old content.
- Book Popularity Prediction. Use an AI trained on The Write Structure (or story structure framework) and sales data to analyze novels and predict whether they will be popular. Could be really useful for agents, publishers, and filmmakers to weed through their slush piles.
Lots of ideas, right? What do you think? Which sounds most exciting to you? What should I focus on next.
Leave a comment and let me know, or let me know if any of these ideas spur ideas of your own!
I like these ideas!
#6 looks like it would have the biggest potential market if you could show its utility.
#1 is something I’d buy and I imagine would be helpful to you as you help people publish and market their books.
I have a problem that I’d love to solve – I’ve got over 3000 blog posts. I’d like to scrape them all into a big file that we could use with AI to write ebooks and books and even podcasts. Is there anything off-the-shelf that could do that?
Agreed on #6. Just not sure if I’m the right guy for that. But some little forrays into that space might be fun.
Should #1 be a product (e.g. application, saas) or a service (i.e. a tool a social media manager might use) is the question?
Loving the idea of 6, but it would be great if it was a bit more proactive than reactive.
Also 11 catches my eye, and I think The Write Structure is an excellent rubric for the analysis.
Yes agreed. It should give you suggestions and notes automatically.
